Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Billy Mackenzie admits that he’s still on a steep learning curve when it comes to racing supercross in dry conditions.

Campbelltown’s third round of the 2011 Monster Energy Super X series was just the second time that Mackenzie has raced in the dry, with his debut coming at last year’s penultimate round in Sydney.

Since then it has been a largely wet affair in Super X, with rain striking Brisbane’s finale in 2010, as well as the opening two rounds of this season in Melbourne and Wollongong.

Mackenzie finished a solid sixth at Campbelltown via 7-5-12 finishes, those results coming despite a number of mishaps during the event.

“I’m feeling confident with my speed after this round. This was only my second dry Super X meet so I’m still on a learning curve,” the Scotsman said.

“I know now what I have to work on after seeing the speed of the other guys so I have fresh goals for what I want to achieve from my first full Super X season.

“The KX450F was getting me off to the best possible starts, but this track was a lot more technical than the last dry race I did at Parramatta last year so I learned a lot and I’m confident to really go for the win now.”

Mackenzie currently sits fourth in the championship standings with two rounds remaining for the year.
