Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing’s Cheyne Boyd will fight to be fit for this weekend’s third round of the Monster Energy Super X series after sustaining an ankle injury during his heat race in Wollongong.

A spectacular crash left Boyd barely able to walk after sustaining severe bruising to his shoulder, back and ankle, which came as a huge blow to his title aspirations after logging the second quickest time in qualifying.

After spending an hour with RACESAFE, Boyd courageously lined up for the last chance qualifier, earning his spot in the final after finishing second.

Despite struggling to walk to the start-line, the Victorian showed great courage, battling severe pain as he negotiated his Honda CRF450R around the quagmire in the rain-soaked conditions.

The Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing rider rode a cautious race to finish 12th, but he now faces an uphill battle to regain fitness for this weekend’s halfway point of the series.

“It was really disappointing to crash like that as I felt quick out there and the bike was working so well,” Boyd said.

“I didn’t think I was going to get back out there but I knew I had to try and take home some points.

“The pain was insane, my ankle is swollen and I can barely walk on it but I will work hard to be fit for next weekends event.”

Boyd now sits ninth in the championship, 14 points off series leader Dan McCoy.

Update: It’s been confirmed that Boyd has suffered a broken fibula and will be ruled out of the remainder of Super X.
