Waters sets strategy ahead of Wollongong's Super X Survival

Todd Waters is aiming for good starts and to avoid trouble as Super X enters Wollongong.

With the Survival format scheduled for tomorrow night’s second round of Monster Energy Super X, Queensland rising star Todd Waters says a strong strategy is required to make it through the evening.

Four five-lap races will make up the main event in Wollongong, starting with 20 riders before the bottom five in each of the finals are eliminated.

Coming off a seventh place finish last weekend in the Melbourne mud-bath, Waters is expecting wet conditions once again, but admits staying out of trouble is just as important as gaining a good start.

“The weather was better on the Gold Coast so I headed up there to get in a few days of riding ahead of what looks like another wet weekend coming up,” said Waters.

“Starts are important, but keeping out of trouble the first few laps are as equally important, that is where I stuffed myself up last weekend.

“I felt like I rode well and came back through the pack cleanly. Everyone at the team has been working hard and the bikes are feeling great.”

Waters is joined in the Pro Open ranks at Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing by Cheyne Boyd and Michael Phillips.
