Grabham to make debut in Gascoyne Dash this weekend

Desert legend Ben Grabham will make his debut in the Gas Dash this weekend.

Desert legend Ben Grabham will make his debut in the Gas Dash this weekend.

HSE Motorex KTM will enter Australia’s most decorated desert racer, Ben Grabham, in this weekend’s Gascoyne Dash in Western Australia on 28-30 October.

Commencing on Friday with the all-important Prologue, Grabham will be looking to add another victory to his unmatched desert racing tally, which includes multiple victories in the Australasian Safari, Finke Desert Race and Hattah Desert Race.

With the Gas Dash taking place across some of the harshest and most remote country in Australia, Grabham looks forward to the challenge in his debut at the event aboard the 2012 model 450 SX-F.

“This is the first time I’ve done the Gas Dash and I’m really looking forward to it,” the 30-year-old from Bathurst in New South Wales said. “It’s a race that compares to Finke, which I really enjoy, so it’s something that I’ve been wanting to do for quite a while now.”

Earlier this year, Grabham took a miraculous win at the Finke Desert Race despite badly breaking his hand on the opening day, and he admits that the pain still affects him at times on the bike.

“The pain’s still there, even though it’s definitely been improving. It’s still getting better, but it should be fine for this race. I’ve watched some DVDs of the race and have a general idea of what it’s all about, so I’ll take it as it comes.”

Friday will see the Prologue take place, before day one of the official action gets underway on Saturday from the Coonatha Race Complex, with competitors completing over 500km of racing throughout the course before returning on Sunday afternoon.
