Serco Yoshimura Yamaha’s Kirk Gibbs has confirmed that he’ll be on the gates for this weekend’s Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, season opener at Melbourne Knights Stadium on Saturday night.

The South Australian suffered a broken collarbone late last month, however he escaped surgery and yesterday made his return to riding alongside fellow Yamaha contender Luke Arbon.

“I had my first ride back yesterday,” Gibbs explained to MotoOnline.com.au. “I never got it plated, didn’t get the operation, because the doctors said it was in line and would be better to leave it to heal naturally.

“I ended up riding yesterday, it took a while to get back into the swing of things, but I did around 20 or 30 solid laps. It was good, so I think once the adrenaline kicks in on race day I should be okay.”

While Gibbs admits he won’t be at 100 percent fitness for round one, he is confident that he’ll be able to ride close to his best come Saturday.

“I wouldn’t say I’ll be 100 percent this weekend, but I’ll get it strapped and should be at 95 or so,” he added. “I want to be there and still have a crack at it.

“At this first round I might have to hold back a little bit, but other than that I really want to go for it.”

Earlier this season Gibbs raced to a solid second overall in the Pro Lites class of the MX Nationals behind Matt Moss.
