Four-time Australian Motocross Champion Jay Marmont believes the absence of top U.S. factory riders and Chad Reed in this year’s Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, will send the series wide open in 2011.

Marmont has won multiple races and finished second in the series behind Josh Hansen last season, however the CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha rider is certain that his title chances will be increased against the domestic regulars this season.

“Without a rider like Reed here, the 2011 championship is more open than ever,” Marmont said. “I took some time off after the MX Nationals to recharge and I think it has done me the world of good.

“I feel fresh on the bike and testing has gone really well, so I look forward to kicking off at round one and chasing this championship.”

Marmont is a former dual Australian Supercross Champion, winning the title back-to-back in 2003 and 2004.

The 2011 Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, kicks off this Saturday night in Melbourne at Knights Stadium.
