Townley focused on outdoors despite Monster Cup performance

Ben Townley stunned with his second place finish in the first final of the Monster Energy Cup.

New Zealand’s Ben Townley has confessed he’ll remain focused on outdoor competition despite a spectacular performance at last weekend’s Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas.

Riding in a guest appearance for Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, Townley finished second in the first of three finals, before bike troubles affected him in the final races of the night.

Still yet to sign a deal for 2012, Townley told RacerXonline.com this week that despite his exceptional ride at the MEC, he’s not looking to contest AMA Supercross next year.

“I haven’t raced AMA Supercross in three years now, the guys at the top of our sport are very, very fast and to race at that level again would be a big ask, in reality,” Townley admitted.

“The Monster Energy Cup was a perfect track for my level of SX these days and I really enjoyed it, but I’m going to stick to my plan of outdoors only.”

Townley was thankful for the opportunity from Pro Circuit to contest the event, which was a hybrid circuit split between motocross and supercross.

“I am really thankful to the team for giving me this opportunity to come and race in the states again,” said Townley. “It was a great chance to race in front of the American fans and I hope I can make it back out here to race again.”

Townley has previously expressed interest in racing both the American and Australian outdoors for next season.
