Australia’s Chad Reed says he’ll learn from the mistakes that cost him him the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship in the season’s second half.

The TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing team rider controlled the series until his spectacular fall at Spring Creek mid-season, halting his momentum at a vital moment in the championship.

Reed raced crashed in both motos at Pala Raceway’s season finale over the weekend, bouncing back from a first turn fall to claim 12th in moto one.

After leading the opening stages of moto two, Reed crashed again, resulting in a fourth place finish and a disappointing way to end the series.

“I wanted to round out the season with a win, I felt like we had it in us and the bike was on the pace,” said Reed.

“Nothing’s gone right for me in the second half of the season and that trend continued – I crashed in the opening moto and could only manage 12th but felt like I was on for a result in the second moto.

“It felt good to lead a bunch of laps again but I crashed and had to settle for fourth.

“It’s not they way we wanted to wrap up what has been a competitive year but we’re a young team and we’ll learn from it.

“My focus is now on the MX des Nations where I’m hoping we can bring home a really good result for the green and gold team.”

Reed finished seventh overall for the weekend and took third in the series, which was topped by Ryan Villopoto with Ryan Dungey finishing second.

Reed scored a total of seven moto wins and four overalls across the 12-round season.
