Italian Antonio Cairoli wrapped up his fifth Motocross World Championship with victory in the MX1 class at Gaildorf over the weekend.

The Red Bull Teka KTM rider has obtained his third FIM MX1 world title in a row, the second one on the revolutionary 350cc KTM machine.

Cairoli won the 43rd GP of his career at Gaildorf, sealing the world title with a consistent run of 3-2 results for the weekend.

“It has been an amazing season and in the beginning it was really tough with my knee injury,” Cairoli said. “After that I was always chasing the victories and now one round before the end we made it.

“I did like the layout of the track here in Gaildorf and there’s lots of nice jumps but the hard pack is very difficult.”

The second step of the podium was for Honda World Motocross’ Eugene Bobryshev, who finished first and eighth in today’s races.

Kawasaki Racing Team’s Xavier Boog obtained his first podium of the season this weekend thanks to his 2-6 result.

CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel, winner of yesterday’s qualifying race, dominated completely the second race from beginning to end, but he had a DNF in the first one due to an early crash. Pourcel finished eighth overall.

New Zealand’s Cody Cooper finished with 26-21 results for 26th overall aboard Clement Desalle’s factory Rockstar Energy Suzuki.
