Serco Yoshimura Yamaha and Kirk Gibbs will benefit from the 2012 YZ250F in Super X this season.

Serco Yoshimura Yamaha’s Kirk Gibbs is certain that Yamaha’s 2012 model YZ250F will boost his title chances when the Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, kicks off in Melbourne this October.

Gibbs was on hand at the model’s national press launch at Standmore in Queensland last Thursday riding alongside the media, and he was impressed with the base package he’ll have to work on for the upcoming supercross season.

“Completely stock the bike’s got a strong motor and good, stiff suspension,” Gibbs said. “With the frame being more rigid, hopefully it gets us across the whoops nicely, so I can’t wait to get my settings and parts on it to have a good crack at this supercross title.”

Despite missing much of last year’s Super X season through injury, Gibbs recently wrapped up second in the MX Nationals and should be a factor when it comes to round victories in 2011. Having a good base to work from in the 2012 YZ250F is a good starting point for him.

“The KTM guys are always up there and also this year we’ll have Dean Ferris in the Lites for supercross,” Gibbs added. “There are also going to be a lot of young kids moving up from the Under 19s too, including Luke Arbon on the Yamaha and a lot of other guys.

“Definitely, having those base settings, the extra power and all that on the new bike is good to work with. You can only improve it, so that will put us one step closer to good starts and getting some wins.”
