Williams Event Management has confirmed that the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals will return to Western Australian in May, 2012.

The Australian Motocross Championship stopped travelling to WA when the Global Financial Crisis hit its hardest following the 2009 season, however the new season will see the series once again return west.

WEM confirmed the news via the official MX Nationals social networking accounts on Facebook and Twitter, the series returning to the notoriously tough Wanneroo circuit.

Once thing that has been suggested is that the Under 19s category sit out the WA round, while the Quads will likely be included due to the popularity of the class in WA.

Last time the MX Nationals visited Wanneroo it was Cheyne Boyd who took out the Pro Opens, while Tye Simmonds won the Pro Lites overall for the round.

Next year’s MX Nationals title chase will be extended to 10 rounds in 2012 with the addition of the WA round, however remaining states or venues are yet to be revealed by WEM.

WEM did hint via Twitter last week that they are considering to host the opening five rounds on alternative weekends before taking a five-week break, and then concluding the series with the final five rounds after that.

Formats are also under discussion at this point, with WEM not ruling out a return to traditional 30-minute motos at selected rounds next year. The current four-moto format will likely remain in place at the majority of rounds though, following the thrilling conclusion to season 2011.
