Australian Motocross Championship regular Billy Mackenzie has escaped serious injury following his spectacular exit from Sunday’s British Grand Prix at Matterley Basin.

The Scotsman made his return to the world championship over the weekend with the British LPE Kawasaki team, finishing an inspiring seventh in moto one after running inside the top three for much of the moto.

It all turned pear-shaped in moto two however, with the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider going down with TM’s Tanel Leok after the latter failed to clear a high-speed up-hill double.

That left Mackenzie concussed on the circuit after taking a severe knock to the head, but he’s confirmed via Twitter that doctors have cleared him from any bone breaks.

“I’m okay, feels like my head has been stamped on by an elephant, but no broken bones luckily!” Mackenzie wrote. “Thanks for all the messages and support over the weekend guys, it felt good to be running near the front in that first race.

“Was a fun weekend all round, felt good being back in the mix of things. Track was awesome!”

While it’s uncertain whether Mackenzie will return to Australia full time in 2012, he will return in time for the Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, when it commences in Melbourne on 22 October.
