CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha’s Josh Coppins is on the road to recovery after undergoing multiple surgeries in Brussels, Belgium, over the past week.

Coppins had the right shoulder that he damaged in Coolum’s Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals season finale operated on, with doctors in Europe also discovering that Coppins had in fact fractured the shoulder as well.

Team boss Craig Dack confirmed the news to MotoOnline.com.au this afternoon, with the 34-year-old Kiwi aiming to return to riding in late November ahead of New Zealand’s motocross season at the beginning of next year.

“Josh had a shoulder issue several years ago when he was in the World GPs and the doctor who operated back then also did this one,” Dack explained. “Not only was there ligament damage, but there was a fracture in the shoulder as well.

“It was all very successful, apart from him developing a small blood hematoma and they had to remove that in another surgery the other day without a problem. He’s looking to get back on the bike at the end of November.”

Speaking of the surgery on Twitter earlier today, Coppins said that he was happy to leave after a seven-night stay, ironically in the same ward as World Motocross contender Clement Desalle.

Coppins concluded the MX Nationals season second in the Pro Open class behind teammate Jay Marmont in a Yamaha 1-2, his title hopes dashed with the injury that took place on the first turn of moto three.

This weekend will see Coppins head to the British round of the Motocross World Championship, where he’ll watch Australian championship opponent Billy Mackenzie make his return to GP racing.
