Four-time current Australian Motocross Champion Jay Marmont successfully defended his King of the Cross championship at Southern Cross in Western Australia on Sunday.

The CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha fan favourite won convincingly for the second year in succession, adding the triumph to WA’s Manjimup 15,000 that he won earlier this year.

Marmont, who wrapped up a fourth straight MX Nationals title at Coolum last month, was the dominant force at the King of the Cross on Sunday.

In the Pro Open class it was Marmont who won two out of three races to begin the day, before he concluded the event with back-to-back victories in the finale to seal the title.

The podium was rounded out by more MX Nationals regulars in Cody Mackie (Team 07 Axis Motorsports Honda) and Kade Mosig (Berry Sweet Strawberries/Lucas Oil Honda).

Both Mackie and Mosig were on Honda CRF450R machinery for the weekend, with Mackie expected to step onto the Open class bike for Super X full time this season.

Mackie’s teammate Michael Addison was fourth after winning the third Pro Open moto, while British contender Jamie Law completed the top five for Herb Watson Racing KTM.

More MX Nationals regulars were featured in the top 10, with Craig Anderson seventh for his Berry Sweet Strawberries/Lucas Oil Honda team, and Louis Calvin eighth for Herb Watson Racing KTM.

Familiar faces finished 1-2 in the Paul Broomfield Memorial race, with former national champion Kim Ashkenazi winning ahead of Paul Grant. Both were friends and on-track rivals of Broomy during their careers.
