Title fight heats up as Coppins and Marmont reach Coolum finale

Marmont is ready to take it to the wire this weekend at Coolum.

Marmont will look for title number four this weekend and won't go down without a fight.

CDR Rockstar Yamaha team mates Josh Coppins and Jay Marmont are both preparing to do battle at Coolum this weekend at the final round of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, as they take the title fight down to the wire.

After what has been a consistent first full Australian motocross season, Coppins will come into Coolum holding an 18 point lead over Marmont.

With the Moree and Coolum rounds running on consecutive weekends, the New Zealand native has stayed in Australia between races, sticking to his regular training routine as he looks for a solid, consistent day this weekend to seal the Pro Open championship.

“It’s actually been nice to stay here and enjoy the warm weather,” Coppins commented.

“With the team also staying in Queensland I have been able to get some riding in and hit the gym so for me its business as usual this weekend and try and post the four best motos I can.”

Marmont on the other hand will be throwing out all the stops at Coolum. Looking to gain a record equalling fourth national motocross title, and record breaking four consecutive, 2011 has been a season of momentum building for the New South Welshman, to the point now where his last three races show a scorecard of two wins and a tie for first at Moree.

He knows now he must capitalise on his late season form and give it everything he has to close the points buffer to his team mate.

“Coolum has been a happy hunting ground for me the past few seasons and I always enjoy the weekend up there. I did a race at the track during the year and managed to win that so I’m looking forward to the race,” said Marmont.

“I have nothing to lose, so it’s all or nothing for me this weekend.”

With the two Yamaha pilots lining up against a stacked Pro Open field this weekend, this title fight is sure to be an exciting one right to the chequers.
