The Point: Pro Open MX Nationals

MotoOnline.com.au gets Australia’s top Pro Lites riders’ predictions ahead of Coolum’s finale.

The Pro Open category of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals is going down to the wire this weekend at Coolum in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast. MotoOnline.com.au cornered a number of Australia’s leading Pro Lites contenders to see how they think the premier class title fight will play out on Sunday between Josh Coppins and defending champion Jay Marmont.

Jay Marmont and Josh Coppins will do battle for the Pro Open title in the MX Nationals at Coolum this weekend.

It’s been a great series, but unfortunately for Ferris he was doing the best he can and crashed. Coppins is riding great, but I would really like to see Marmont get up there. 18 points is very doable, he always goes good at this round. All in all, the racing in the Pro Opens has been pretty good and I’m barracking for my boy, hoping for Jay to get up there and win.

The Pro Open championship’s been pretty interesting this year. Ferris had a good lead and he rides good here at Coolum, but unfortunately he had the crash last weekend at Moree. Jay tied for first at the last round and he won the two before that, so he’s got the dog back in him I think. It’s going to take a lot to beat Coppins, he’s been around a long time and he’s smart. I’m not too sure, but I’m rooting for Jay and hopefully he can get number four – it’s pretty amazing what he’s done. I think he’s come out on top some how.

Daniel McCoy – Rockstar Motul Suzuki
To be honest I haven’t put too much thought into it, but with Coppins’ experience I don’t think he’s going to throw it away too easy with an 18-point lead. Jay has to win every race and if Coppins got second in every race then he’d still win it. Coppins pretty much has it in the bag unless something crazy happens.

It’s going to be tough for Marmont to win it, but I reckon he’ll win the day. I don’t think there’s going to be enough people in between for him to pull out the 18 points. Marmont’s pumped up, he gave me a call during the week and he’s ready to go. He’ll win, but Coppins is going to need to mess up for him to win the title. That’s pretty much what I reckon.

Kade Mosig – Berry Sweet Strawberries/Lucas Oil Honda Racing
I’d like to see Jay Marmont win it again, I think four years in a row would be a solid effort. Coppins is solid, but I’d like to see Jay win it again and take home another number one plate.
