Reed gets back to business as Washougal round takes shape

Aussie Chad Reed is back on track following this scary crash at Spring Creek last weekend.

It’s business as usual for Chad Reed as he prepares for this weekend’s Washougal event, less than a week after the shocking crash at Millville which captured headlines across the world.

The TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray rider’s spectacular dismount has also reached viral status on the internet, with one video approaching 2 million views and countless comments about how the tenacious Aussie rider managed to escape serious injury.

Reed, who solidiered on winded and in pain in the second Spring Creek moto, still leads the 450 class standings and is determined to reclaim lost ground at round 8 of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship in Washington this weekend.

“I’m still a bit sore and bruised but consider myself lucky so I’ve just tried to get on with it this week,” said Reed.

“It’s crazy the amount of attention this has captured – I’ve seen the footage a few times and it does give me a bit of a chill.

“I was knocked around a bit but when I got up all I could think of was keeping that points lead.

“It was disappointing to feel so good in the first moto and not be able to convert in the second. Everything was working for me – the bike was great and I felt faster than the guys I needed to be beating.

“There’s still time to build back up a lead but the competition is now closer than its ever been so every point will count.

“If I can get through what I have in the past week then I am certain I can continue to push through the pain to get some more moto wins on the board.”

On course to take his commanding lead to 20-plus points after the first Spring Creek moto, Reed’s commendable effort to claw his way back to 14th sees him holding Ryan Villopoto at bay by six points, with Ryan Dungey back a further point.
