Marmont: I’m not letting my number one plate go without a fight

CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha's Jay Marmont hopes to make it three in a row this weekend at Moree.

CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha's Jay Marmont hopes to make it three in a row this weekend at Moree.

Defending triple Australian Motocross Champion Jay Marmont has promised that he won’t go down without a fight in the battle for this year’s Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals.

Marmont enters Moree with a spring in his step after stringing together back-to-back round wins and going to a track that set up his championship victory in 2010.

The mid-season charge has seen Marmont back to his best and the hard yards he puts in during the week is beginning to pay dividends as the championship gets serious.

“I’m 32 points from the lead and I’m not going to let my number one plate go without a fight,” Marmont said. “All I can do is keep winning races at the final two rounds and not worry about what happens behind me.

“The CDR team has given me everything I require to get that done and aside from the lingering effects of the flu, my preparation has been good so I look forward to another successful trip to Moree.”

Marmont has gone from strength-to-strength in the latter stages of the season, struggling in the mud at Broadford’s season opener and then pushing to find form since.

Victories in the Manjimup 15,000 in Western Australia and Queensland State Championship at Coolum boosted Marmont’s form last month, going on to win both the Coonabarabran and Wodonga rounds of the nationals.

Marmont currently sits 32 points in arrears of leader Dean Ferris, ranking fourth overall with just two rounds remaining.
