Australia’s Chad Reed has spoken out about his crash at the Spring Creek round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship that made national news highlights nationwide over the weekend.

TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing’s Reed rode away from the most horrific crash of his career during moto two at Millville, just hours after extending his series lead with a spectacular win in moto one.

Reed moved into the lead past Ryan Villopoto early on lap one in the second moto, but as the field headed for the track’s largest jump, Reed hit some bumps and was catapulted off his Honda CRF450R into mid-air.

Incredibly, Reed re-mounted and battled back through the pack from dead last to 14th, and sealed fifth overall for the round.

“I hit some bumps and the front wheel just went out from under me,” Reed explained. “The next thing I knew, I was flying through the air. I’m just happy to still be here.

“It’s all about the championship so I wasn’t about to lay down and let these guys gain 25 points. I got back on and rode my best to come back from dead last to 14th.

“It was always going to be a fight, and now it’s definitely going to be that way but I’m excited for the rest of the races,” he added.

While Reed has been cleared of serious injury he will spend the next few days recuperating ahead of next weekend’s Washougal national.

Reed retains the championship and now sits just six points ahead of Villopoto and seven points ahead of defending champion Ryan Dungey.
