The Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, will introduce an Under 19s category in 2011, MotoOnline.com.au can reveal.
Although it hasn’t officially been announced by series promoter Global Action Sports, there has been confirmation throughout various Super X social networking sites this month that the Under 19s will go ahead this season.
This year will see a total of four Super X categories contested, including the Pro Open, Pro Lites and 14-15-year Development class that formed part of the series last year.
The Under 19s have proven a success story in the MX Nationals during recent years, developing some of Australia’s leading talent that are now featuring amongst the best in the Pro Open ranks.
Season 2007 saw Brenden Harrison crowned champion, in 2008 it was Tye Simmonds who won the title, 2009 featured Luke Styke as champion, and last year it was Josh Cachia who won his first senior national title.
Other top contenders rising through the Under 19s ranks outdoors include current Pro Open championship leader Dean Ferris, national Pro Lites number two Kirk Gibbs, factory Honda Pro Open rider Todd Waters and standout Pro Open rookie Lawson Bopping.
