Honda World Motocross team rider Evgeny Bobryshev has reflected on his historic first MX1 Grand Prix win on the weekend at Teutschenthal, Germany, understandably excited after his dominating 1-1 performance on the day.

The win marked the first ever for the Russian rider, and the first for his nation in over 30 years.

“It is a really great feeling being there on top of the box and hearing the Russian anthem being played,” Bobryshev exclaimed.

“Inside you are so excited you want to cry. I think the other riders who have won their first Grand Prix will understand me.”

After taking victory in the first race by four seconds over current series leader, Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli, race two saw Bobryshev forced to fend off hard pressure right to the finish from the Italian KTM pilot in order to grab his first ever overall victory.

“I saw Tony coming with ten minutes to go and I knew he would be close so I was getting ready for that, I felt a bit nervous! I stayed strong though and was able to win the race,” said the 23 year old Russian.

“We did a lot of testing last week and we had some tough days on the bike, but I was able to feel more comfortable this weekend and enjoyed playing with the bike. I’m so motivated to get to Kegums now,” Bobryshev added.

The Motocross World Championship now heads to round ten in Latvia, where Bobryshev will look to carry his momentum to improve on his current fourth place standing in the series points.
