Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing’s Cheyne Boyd says he felt like his old self in the final two motos at the Wodonga round of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals.

Boyd finished eighth overall despite a flat tyre in the second Pro Open race of the day, taking out 7-DNF-4-3 finishes for the round.

Those strong results in the final pair of motos have Boyd confident he’s progressing, looking to return to the form that saw him finish a close second in the series back in 2009.

“I was disappointed with the second race,” Boyd admitted. “I had the holeshot and the race lead but then I had to come in with a flat tyre.

“Even though I was a lap down I went back out to work on my lines and I over jumped and tweaked my ankle.

“I really felt like the old me during the last two races. I was comfortable on the bike and had good pace.

“Testing with Glen [Bell] last week definitely helped and the new bike setup has given me a lot more confidence.”

Boyd remains fifth in the championship with just two rounds remaining in the series.
