Frossard and Roczen victorious in Swedish Motocross Grand Prix

Steven Frossard took his second career MX1 GP victory in Sweden on Sunday.

Steven Frossard took his second career MX1 GP victory in Sweden on Sunday.

Steven Frossard and Ken Roczen ruled the Swedish GP in front of the numerous warm crowd of Uddevalla on Sunday.

Monster Energy Yamaha’s Frossard dominated comfortably both races in Sweden and repeated his 2010 overall victory, winning ahead of Honda’s Evgeny Bobryshev and Red Bull KTM’s reigning world champion Antonio Cairoli.

Frossard used a pair of wins to seal the overall in the premier MX1 class, marking his second overall victory of his rookie season on the 450.

“It feels really good to win again,” Frossard said. “I like this track even if it is slippery and difficult! I tried to stay focussed and ride calmly and my good starts helped a lot with this. It wasnt easy out there but it was easier thanks to that.

“I was lucky at the start of the first moto because I almost crashed with Antonio and I actually hit my shoulder when it happened. It has been difficult to keep consistent because of my hand injury but it is getting better all the time.

“We made a couple of small changes on the bike this weekend but I felt really good on the YZ450FM. Cairoli was fast in the second moto but I pushed hard in the beginning because I knew he would be strong towards the end.”

Cairoli finished with 5-2 results, while Bobryshev went 2-4 despite a crash in the second moto forcing him to slice through the pack from the rear of the field.

The result for Cairoli saw him reclaim the championship lead by 10 points over injured Suzuki star Clement Desalle, who was seventh in Sweden.

In MX2, Red Bull KTM’s Roczen easily won both heats and his teammate Jeffrey Herlings was on the second step of the rostrum with a pair of second place finishes.

“I had two good starts and that helped me,” Roczen reflected. “I rode really smooth and I didn’t even have the feeling that I was pushing hard but I was still making the fastest lap times.

“It was definitely a great feeling. I didn’t make any big mistakes. I just tried to get better and I want to do it again next weekend. It’s all about riding smooth and smart.”

Third overall was Gautier Pauline, scoring 2-3 results for Yamaha.

Roczen extended his world championship lead to a comfortable margin of 14 points over Herlings.
