Former Motocross World Championship number two Josh Coppins believes he has to start winning motos and scoring the big points if he’s to be a factor for the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals title when it wraps up at Coolum in four weeks time.

The series will enter round seven of nine this weekend at Wodonga in Victoria, with the massive double-header season finale only just around the corner late next month.

CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha’s Coppins won the second and third rounds of the year at Appin and Raymond Terrace respectively, but knows he needs to gain consistency in order to challenge for the Pro Open title.

“It’s getting down to the time when races have to be won and round victories must be earned,” the New Zealander admitted.

“The 32 points isn’t a big gap, but now is the time I must put some pressure on the riders in front of me and claw back points in each and every race.”

Coppins currently sits 32 points off series leader Dean Ferris, who tops the points race despite not yet winning a round in 2011.
