Kawasaki officially launched its 2012 model KX450F at Red Bud in Michigan this week, with American press scoring their first ride on the vastly redesigned model.

Features of the all-new model include a more compact and mass-centralised chassis, however the Launch Control Mode is what many have been talking about so far.

The Launch Control system changes DFI settings with the push of a button to maximise traction out of the starting gate. It activates a separate engine map designed to ensure efficient race starts.

The map retards ignition timing, allowing tyres to gain grip in low-traction situations. Once the rider shifts into third gear, the system is automatically disengaged, switching back to the normal engine map.

Initial reports are that the Launch Control works a treat, however problems could arrise on short start straights where shifting to third gear isn’t required.

The adjustable Digital Fuel Injection system was also a popular feature at the launch according to reports, and many on hand were raving about the slimline chassis that makes the ride more compact then ever before.
