Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey remains positive despite a disastrous DNF while leading the second moto at Freestone’s round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship in Texas yesterday.

Dungey, who finished second in the opening moto, appeared to be en route to his first overall victory of the season by winning the final moto.

With just two laps remaining, Dungey suddenly began to slow and eventually came to a complete stop after his bike quit running.

With the defending champion sitting on the side of the track, Australia’s Reed re-assumed the lead and carried it to the end to secure the victory.

“I got off to a good start and then got the lead,” said Dungey. “I was putting in some good laps and then Chad made a mistake. I was able to capitalize on that and then pull away a little bit more.

“I was just trying to maintain my lead and get the overall, but I guess there were some other things that happened. It is what it is. We just had a little bit of a problem. We aren’t sure what it is, but we’ve got a great team here and we’ll get to the bottom of it.

“It’s a long season and we still have a lot of racing left and that’s something to be thankful for. We’ll just put our head down and keep going.”

With the result, Dungey finished eighth overall for the round, now sitting fourth in the series after two of 12 rounds.
