Coppins vows to turn form around after missing Toowoomba podium

Coppins was disappointed with his performance at Echo Valley.

CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s Josh Coppins says the time is now for him to reach his peak form following a frustrating fifth place finish at Toowoomba’s Echo Valley Raceway, round five of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals last weekend.

Coppins was looking forward to riding the rough, technical, GP style track for the first time, but the overnight rain on Saturday turned the event into more of a survival race, in which Coppins was only able to come away with 9-5-5-5 moto scores for fifth overall in the Pro Open category.

Despite extremely tough conditions and a fall in the first turn of race one, he was critical of his performance and made no excuses.

“I’m really disappointed with my result today,” Coppins offered. “Sure, the track was tough and it was hard to ride, but it’s the same for everyone and I should be able to put myself in a good position regardless of the conditions.”

With a four week break before the series heads to Coonabarabran for round six, Coppins has vowed to put the race behind him and move forward in the championship race.

“That is not the way I go about trying to win a championship and I have to turn it around fast,” he stated.

Coppins now sits third in the championship standings, 29 points behind series leader, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Dean Ferris.
