South Australian Brett Metcalfe is a favourite heading into the AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

South Australian Brett Metcalfe has confirmed he’s returned to his peak fitness levels ahead of this weekend’s Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship season opener at Hangtown.

Metcalfe raced to a stunning second overall in his rookie 450 Class season in 2010, now confident he can go one better since joining reigning champion Ryan Dungey at Rockstar Makita Suzuki aboard a factory RM-Z450 for this season.

Despite sitting out the second half of the supercross season with a wrist injury, Metcalfe has this week confirmed he’s ready to go racing come Saturday.

“We’re geared up and ready for Hangtown this weekend,” said Metcalfe. “I’m really looking forward to the outdoor motocross season. I’m feeling really fit and healthy. I can’t wait to get out there Saturday on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki.”

Metcalfe is confident he has what it takes to win the title, believing a consistent run will boost his chances for the title at the end of 12 rounds.

“I had a great season last year and I think I can definitely do it,” he added. “There’s a lot of great competition – I think the field is going to be stacked and there’s going to be incredible battles all season long.

“I think the man who’s strongest and most consistent will pull off the championship.”
