U.S. GP sees slip in the standings for rookie Frossard

Frenchman Steven Frossard lost his MX1 title lead at Glen Helen on Sunday.

The Glen Helen U.S. GP saw a weekend that French MX1 rookie sensation Steven Frossard would probably rather forget.

After leaving the previous round in Holland with the championship lead, bad starts, bad luck and mistakes saw the Monster Energy Yamaha rider hand the red leaders plate to Clement Desalle.

The first race saw Frossard work his way to seventh after a lacklustre start, only to have a mistake on the last lap drop him back to tenth.

“It wasn’t my weekend. In the first heat I had a bad start and I didnt have a good feeling. I tried to come back and reached seventh but then made a mistake on the last lap and crashed,” he stated after the race.

The second moto only saw more misfortune, after getting caught up in an incident with Antonio Cairoli and then falling again while trying to make up for lost ground.

“In the second heat I couldnt improve the start and when Cairoli made a mistake I landed on him and we both fell. I pushed really hard to recover, perhaps too much because I crashed again and the handlebar was destroyed.

“I then looked to take some points but it was not possible.”

The MXGP series now moves to Brazil, where Frossard will look to improve on his current fourth place status in the championship.
