Australia’s Chad Reed says he’s going to enjoy this weekend’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, finals in Las Vegas, admitting it’s a long shot for him to clinch the crown.

The TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing team owner/rider has been incredible as a privateer in 2011, but sits nine points off series leader Ryan Villopoto with one round remaining and 25 points to be won.

For Reed to capture the title he’ll have to win the race and hope Villopoto finishes outside the top five, but he’s not yet giving up hope of a major upset come Saturday night.

“Just do your deal and enjoy it,” Reed told Racer X this week when questioned on his strategy for Vegas. “We’re nine down, so it’s going to take him finishing outside of the top five and me getting a win.

“Honestly I feel like that’s a long shot. Ryan rides great at that track.”

Reed finished second behind his American former Kawasaki teammate in Salt Lake City’s penultimate round last weekend, a disappointing result after Villopoto passed him in the early stages.

Reed eventually closed the gap back up in a fine finish, but it was too litte, too late as he crossed the line just 0.95 seconds in arrears of Villopoto.

“I gave up a lot tonight and I know that, and that’s why I’m bummed,” Reed added. “I’m disappointed. But I’m not beat, we’ll come out next week and come out swinging and try to win the race.

“I can only control my own destiny, and whatever happens outside of that happens.”
