Sprained vertebrae rule Brayton out of Seattle AMA Supercross

Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGRMX Team’s Justin Brayton will sit out this weekend’s 15th round of the AMA Supercross Championship at Qwest Field in Seattle.

Brayton, who raced selected rounds of Super X in Australia last year, sustained an injury to his lower back two weeks ago racing at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

An initial evaluation that night at the Asterisk Mobile Medical Unit led to Brayton being transported to Baylor Hospital to be checked for possible compressed vertebrae.

He was scanned and released after the doctors confirmed no skeletal damage, and he was told that riding would not cause further injury, but would be extremely painful.

Brayton was determined to race last weekend in St Louis, however the pain was too severe and he was only able to log a few laps of the first practice before calling it a day.

With further guidance from the Asterisk Mobile Medical Unit staff, Brayton went to another physician and while there is no skeletal injury, he was diagnosed with four sprained lower vertebrae.

Brayton has now engaged in a therapy program and hopes to race on 30 April in Salt Lake City, Utah.
