Emotional Stewart says St Louis win was one of his best

James Stewart bounced back from an eight race winless streak to take victory at St Louis.

San Manuel Yamaha’s James Stewart says that last weekend’s victory in the St Louis round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, was one of his greatest of all time.

Stewart snapped an eight-race winless streak with a superb win on Saturday night, his first podium since the Indianapolis round a month prior.

In front of almost 60,000 spectators the Floridian quickly overtook holeshotter Ivan Tedesco and never looked back, wheeling away to notch Yamaha’s seventh victory in St Louis.

“Man, I was more emotional there than winning the championship,” Stewart admitted. “For me, it was just everything. I guess the last eight weeks just started coming out of me and I just couldn’t hold it in.

“I was trying to. It was just special. When you can’t do right on or off the track, having my sponsors say, ‘we still stick behind you even after some losses,’ and the fans still cheering and all that. I just think it was special.

“And, for me, it was super-emotional.”

With his fourth win of the season, Stewart remains in title contention as he stands fourth in the series, 16 points off leader Ryan Villopoto with three rounds remaining.
