Red Bull Teka KTM rider Ken Roczen’s clean sweep at the opening round of the MX2 Motocross World Championship over the weekend has impressed Motocross Grand Prix legend Stefan Everts.

Factory team boss Everts, himself a multiple-time world champion, rated German 16-year-old Roczen’s GP debut with KTM a good one in Bulgaria, especially since he had been focussing on the West Coast AMA Supercross rounds earlier this season.

“Ken did a great job winning and dominating both motos,” the Belgian said. “He’s adapted very well and he’s coming from getting good results in the U.S. I thought the switch from supercross to motocross would be tougher but he’s adapted very well.”

Roczen was thrilled to begin his GP career with KTM on a high note, the title his goal after finishing runner-up for Suzuki in 2010.

“I just wanted to go out in front and do my thing,” Roczen said. “I had an awesome race. I’m very happy and everyone is doing a great job. I hope I can continue like this for the next races.”

Roczen is expected to return to AMA Supercross duties in the West Coast Lites series before the season finishes next month.
