Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Phil Nicoletti put his potential on display at the Appin round of the MX Nationals series, winning motos three and four to snatch third overall for the round on Sunday.

The 22-year-old American finished eighth in moto one and then failed to finish the second, however a pair of superb wins to round out the day proved that he has what it takes to mix it with Australia’s best on home soil.

“I went for a walk by myself after the first two motos and figured I needed to get my stuff together,” Nicoletti, originally from New York, said.

“It was a rough beginning to the day but the team worked with me to get the bike good for the third and fourth moto and we came out and did what we had to do.”

When questioned about this weekend’s Raymond Terrace round, Nicoletti admitted the goal is to win all four motos with momentum on his side.

“I’m over not winning anymore,” he added. “Third was good today, it’s definitely pointing in the right direction. The plan is to go 1-1-1-1.”

Nicoletti now sits fourth in the championship following rounds one and two.
