Redhead focussed on wins, Arbon avoids injury in Appin fall

Shaun Redhead is determined to win races in upcoming Under 19s MX Nationals rounds.

GYTR Rockstar Yamaha’s Shaun Redhead says the time is now to start winning races in the Under 19s class of the Australian Motocross Championship.

Redhead has been consistently quick in 2011 and finished second overall at Appin on Sunday with 3-2-2-12 finishes, but he’s confident that he can start winning races if he’s to figure into the championship.

“I felt pretty good today once the track dried out,” Redhead reflected. “It was really wet in practice and qualifying so it was hard to get a good gauge on how I was going. But once the racing starting, the track was good and I enjoyed racing it,” Redhead comments.

“At the first two rounds, I have been consistent and that was just the start I was looking for. Now, it’s time to start picking off some race wins and get myself at the front of the field.”

Teammate Luke Arbon had a tough day at the office by his standards, but despite all the challenges he finished fourth for the round and runs second in the championship with a long way to go.

After winning Broadford’s season-opener it was a disappointment for Arbon, but he’s adamant that the result has only made him more determined.

“It wasn’t one of my better days, was it?” Arbon said. “But if I can still manage a fourth overall on my worst day, I will take it a move onto next week and come back firing.”

“My thumb is pretty sore at the moment so I will have to get that checked out tomorrow, but this result has only made me more determined. Fourth is not where I belong!”

Arbon’s thumb has since been given the all-clear of any fractures or major injury.
