Reed looking to close in on title leader Villopoto at Toronto

Australia's dual champion Chad Reed is in a position to pounce heading into Toronto this weekend.

Australia's dual champion Chad Reed is in a position to pounce heading into Toronto this weekend.

TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed is looking to reduce the deficit to the Monster Energy AMA Supercross points leader at this weekend’s twelfth round of the series at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.

The only two-time winner in Toronto, Reed last tasted victory here in his most recent championship year, 2008, and he is looking forward to another solid performance when the gates drop on the 20-lap main event.

The Australian’s approach to the race has remained unchanged despite his closest rivals meeting with misfortune at Jacksonville.

“Last week was a strange result but championships are never going to be a straight run to the flag,” said Reed. “I’ve been in this position many times before and everyone is going to have their good and bad nights – that’s racing.

“I started this season off less prepared than I ever have but have put faith in the guys around me and we’ve worked our way forward to be in this position.

“I have a few things to work on. Last week’s track showed up a few things, the whoops in particular were brutal and I took a while to figure out it was best to attack them as hard as I could.

“I’m looking forward to the run home in this championship – we can only learn more and benefit from what we’re learning.”

Just six point-scoring opportunities remain for Reed to reel in the leader in the 450 class.

He is currently placed second, seven points behind Ryan Villopoto, and 11 points ahead of 2010 champion Ryan Dungey.
