Australia's Daniel McCoy won in New Zealand over the weekend to take over the series lead.

Rockstar Motul Suzuki’s Daniel McCoy won the third round of the New Zealand MX2 Motocross Championship near Rotorua on Sunday, his first national victory since joining Suzuki for 2011.

McCoy finished 2-5-1 to win the day by seven points from Kiwi Cameron Dillon (Honda), while former world title contender and Aussie champion Darryl King took the final spot on the podium.

Victory for McCoy was enough to take over the series lead, now ahead of King by just two points with a single round remaining in the series next weekend.

In the MX1 category it was McCoy’s teammate Cody Cooper who won on Sunday and now sits one point shy of series leader Josh Coppins (Yamaha).

Copper finished 1-2-1 in his three MX1 outings to again win the day, just as he had at the previous round near Morrinsville last month.

Coppins finished with 2-1-3 results for the round despite an early crash in the third and final leg of the weekend.
