Glenn Allerton has been in stunning form for BMW in 2011, but he says this is only the beginning.

Procon Maxima BMW Racing’s Australian Superbike Championship leader Glenn Allerton says there’s more to come as he and the Victorian-based team are still in early development stages with the S 1000 RR.

The 2008 Australian Superbike Champion finished third in race one at Symmons Plains last weekend after experiencing braking problems, before he was able to bounce back for the race two win and the overall on Sunday afternoon.

“We’ll look to Darwin now and try a few more things to develop the bike further,” Allerton said. “There’s more progress to be made and I can’t wait to get to Hidden Valley and try to work on building my championship lead further.”

Team owner Wayne Hepburn was proud of Allerton’s efforts throughout the weekend, marking two wins from two starts for the new-look Hepburn Motorsports effort.

“Glenn rode a brilliant race, especially considering the issues he had in race one with the front brake,” Hepburn said. “To make adjustments on the fly and come back through the field was amazing.

“The crowd were on the edge of their seats – one more lap and I am sure he would have taken the win.”

BMW Motorrad marketing manager Miles Davis is enjoying watching the team progress using what is essentially a Superstock-spec BMW.

“We are thrilled with Glenn’s results of late,” Davis said. “He is a true champion and he has a great team around him. To be leading the championship with very little time to prepare the bike is almost unbelievable.

“It also shows how good the S 1000 RR is straight out of the box. Glenn and Procon Racing have definitely proven that they are genuine championship contenders.”

Allerton leads the championship on 93 points, 23 ahead of Team Suzuki’s Troy Herfoss who finished fifth overall last weekend.
