Brookes enjoys debut with Relentless Suzuki in Spain

Aussie Josh Brookes made his debut aboard Relentless Suzuki's BSB bike this week.

Josh Brookes made his debut with the Relentless Suzuki British Superbike team at Cartagena on Thursday and the Australian title contender admits after a couple of sessions he was feeling more at home on the GSX-R1000.

Brookes recently completed laps at Phillip Island on a Superstock-spec machine, but yesterday was the first time that he worked with the new team and the first time he has ridden the Superbike.

“Everything is looking really positive after the first day,” Brookes commented. “I did start today feeling like a bit of a passenger. I was seriously impressed with the bike but I didn’t feel at one with it straight away.

“That didn’t take too long for the boys to sort out after we made a number of small changes and position adjustments.”

Once Brookes felt comfortable, he began to enjoy his first test for the season with the Relentless squad.

“In the afternoon when I felt comfortable I was able to push and felt like we were going somewhere – I was spinning the rear tyre and pulling wheelies and starting to enjoy it and really felt part of the bike,” he added.

“I only met the guys in the team the day before but I already feel like I’ve known them for a long time. For a first day it couldn’t have gone any better.”

Current BSB number two Brookes has switched from the HM Plant Honda team for 2011, recently returning the Europe following a lengthy off-season in Australia.
