Procon Maxima Racing BMW’s Glenn Allerton has continued his early season form, setting the fastest lap in this morning’s first timed Superbike session at Symmons Plains’ second round of the Australian Superbike Championship this morning.

At one of his favourite circuits on the calendar, Allerton was quick from the outset, eventually setting a quickest lap of 53.660 on his 19th and final lap of the session to rank as the lone rider under the 54-second bracket.

Allerton’s fastest lap was just narrowly outside the current Superbike qualifying record of 53.392, set by Jason O’Halloran in 2008.

Slotting in behind the 2008 ASBK champion was Wayne Maxwell, the Team Honda Racing contender’s best a 54.094 to edge out teammate Jamie Stauffer’s 54.197.

Superbike class rookie Troy Herfoss was a surprising fourth for Team Suzuki, his 54.300 enough to end the session ahead of 2009 champion teammate Josh Waters’ 54.511.

Riding off momentum from a podium placing last weekend, iStyle The Natural Aprilia’s Ben Attard is again on the pace in Tasmania, ranking sixth with a 54.527 as the last rider in the 54s.

Earlier today in Supersport, Team Suzuki’s Brodie Waters boosted himself to the top of the timesheets in the final moments of the session with a 57.040 – just 0.005 ahead of Yamaha Racing Team’s Kevin Curtain.

AARK Racing Triumph’s Christan Casella returned to form in third, while round one winner Aaron Gobert experienced mechanical troubles at the mid-point of the session, forcing him to settle for sixth with a 57.467.

Topping Prostock this morning was Cru Halliday (Yamaha), Mike Jones (Yamaha) was quickest in Superstock and Josh Hook (Aprilia) topped the Superlites to commence the weekend.
