Current Under 19s champion Josh Cachia will step into the Pro Lites for 2011.

Current Under 19s champion Josh Cachia will step into the Pro Lites for 2011.

As the current Under 19s Australian Motocross development category champion, all eyes will be on Kilmore local Josh Cachia when he makes his Pro Lites debut at Broadford’s opening round of the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals on Sunday, 13 March.

The JDR Motorex KTM factory rider will step up to the pro ranks with his confidence sky-high after winning a mammoth 11 races last season on route to the Under 19s title, and he can’t wait for the challenges that await come next Sunday.

“I’m excited to be racing in the Pro Lites this year after winning the Under 19s in 2010 – especially with the season starting at what is my home round at Broadford,” 19-year-old Victorian Cachia commented. “It’s going to be a challenge, but definitely one that I’m looking forward to with KTM in my rookie season.”

Cachia forms part of the all-star three-rider JDR Motorex KTM Pro Lites team alongside 2009 series champion Matt Moss and Queensland up and comer Brenden Harrison.

Forming Serco Yamaha’s line-up for the season ahead will be returning national number two Kirk Gibbs alongside last year’s third place finisher Ford Dale, while 2007 champion Jake Moss – twin brother of Matt – is expected to return from injury mid-season.

Rockstar Motul Suzuki has pinned its hopes on the experience of Daniel McCoy in the Pro Lites, while Monster Energy Kawasaki will look to American import Phil Nicoletti in its bid for the crown.

Honda’s hopes lie with two satellite squads, including the Berry Sweet Strawberries Lucas Oil Honda Racing entry of Victorian Kade Mosig, plus Team 07 Axis Motorsports Honda’s Cody Mackie.

The Pro Lites class will be hosted alongside the premier Pro Open and also the Under 19s development series, showcasing Australia’s hottest two-wheel talent across all three categories.

This year’s opening round of the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals will be contested at Broadford’s State Motorcycle Sport Complex in Victoria on Sunday, 13 March.
