Parkes confident to contend in WSS from front row

Aussie Broc Parkes will start the Phillip Island round of World Supersport from fourth on Sunday.

Aussie Broc Parkes will start the Phillip Island round of World Supersport from fourth on Sunday.

Australia’s World Supersport hope Broc Parkes believes he is ready for race day after claiming a front row qualifying position for tomorrow’s opening round of the 2011 championship at Phillip Island.

29-year-old Hunter Valley rider Parkes snared fourth on the grid with an impressive 1:34.548 lap time on his Kawasaki Motocard.com ZX-6R, and he’s now looking ahead at a home round victory for tomorrow.

“That isn’t exactly the result I was hoping for as pole position would be nice, but the inside run to the first turn on the front row is a great place to be anyway,” Parkes commented.

“The bike is working really well, particularly in the last three sectors of the circuit, which is very good for the race tomorrow.

“We are struggling for top speed and down around five to seven kilometers per hour on the fastest bikes but in a good slipstream I can get over that barrier, it’s only when I am out front that will be an issue.

“We’ve done our long runs for the weekend with good success and the bike is ready for the race. I think the weather conditions will be similar to today’s qualifying so I am confident that the bike will be good.

“I’m looking forward to the race tomorrow. It has been a perfect weekend so far and I have my entire family with me so I would love to give them and my Aussie fans a win.”

The first World Supersport race of the season will take place at 1:30pm local time in Victoria.
