MX Nationals entry lists unveiled for season 2011

The entry lists for the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, have been unveiled, this year’s series shaping up to be one of the most hard-fought on record.

Series promoter Williams Event Management released the series entry lists for the Pro Open, Pro Lites and Under 19s categories over the weekend, all three classes featuring some of the biggest name in the sport both domestically and abroad.

Heading the 39-rider Pro Open contingent is CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha’s triple champion Jay Marmont, who will contend for a record fourth straight crown this year.

Marmont’s teammate Josh Coppins, a former World Motocross GP number two, will also be one to watch after winning the opening round of the New Zealand Motocross Championship last weekend near Timaru.

Rockstar Motul Suzuki will field Cody Cooper in the Open class and Dan McCoy in the Lites, with Cooper finishing third in MX1 and McCoy second in MX2 behind Team 07 Axis Motorsports Honda’s Cody Mackie at the NZ nationals round.

Suzuki will also have a new face in the Opens with Raceline Pirelli Suzuki’s Lawson Bopping, who won a club event at Appin on Sunday against Marmont and other leading national riders.

The Lites class favourite is 2009 champion Matt Moss, who joins JDR Motorsports KTM to lead the 23 Pro Lites entrants into the season opener.

In the Under 19s class, a mammoth 56 entries are shown on the entry list, with riders having to qualifying for a position on the 40-rider gate this season.

Round one of the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals will be contested at Broadford’s State Motorcycle Sport Complex in Victoria on Sunday, 13 March.
