Reed looking to convert heat race form to the main in LA

Aussie Chad Reed is looking to land his first main event podium this weekend in LA.

Australia’s Chad Reed is looking to convert his heat race form to the main event this weekend when the 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, makes its first stop at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.

Fifth at the Anaheim opener and fourth in Phoenix, Reed has made good ground each week, the product of a comprehensive mid-week testing program for the newly formed TwoTwo Motorsports team and his own physical fitness routine.

A consistent start to the 17-round season has the two-time champion sitting steady in fifth place with 34 points.

“At this point in time we’re where we need to be and each week we’ll try to pick up a few more points than the last,” Reed commented. “Starts will be key. A heat win in Phoenix was a good boost for the team and I’m hoping to convert that to a result in the main.”

Further suspension work this weekend has Reed satisfied with the team’s progress after just two main events.

“We’ve had a good week and feel we are well-prepared for LA,” Reed continued. “It’s exciting to be involved in a new event and race at a place the series has never visited.

“Tomorrow is press day where I’ll get a chance to take in the stadium a bit more and get used to the track.

“I think we have the opportunity to make another step towards the front here after learning a lot more about the bike in the past few weeks.”
