GoPro becomes official sports camera of AMA Supercross

GoPro, the world’s leading HD activity camera company, has been selected as the official sports camera of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

The 2011 Monster Energy Supercross season and GoPro sponsorship initiatives kick-off this Saturday, 8 January at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium.

During each broadcast on television, fans at home will enjoy ‘The GoPro Track View’, a rider’s perspective of each supercross track, captured with GoPro’s best selling HD HERO camera mounted to the riders’ chest or helmet.

This immersive experience will give fans a feel for what it’s like to be a professional Supercross racer, charging the track at race speeds.

The GoPro Track View will air during each Monster Energy Supercross race broadcasted by SPEED during the next two seasons.

“The GoPro brand is a perfect match for Monster Energy Supercross,” said Tim Murray, vice president of sales, Feld Motor Sports.

“Just as supercross is one of the most physically demanding sports to compete in and also one of the most exciting to watch – GoPro’s HD HERO is the most versatile and durable camera that produces many of the most thrilling videos seen in sports.

“We are very pleased to have a multi-year relationship with them and look forward to creating a great experience for our fans.”

During the season, multiple Supercross riders in each class will wear GoPro’s HD HERO cameras to capture race footage from the rider’s perspective.

GoPro will produce exclusive edits with this footage, bringing the racer’s perspective to the viewer and showing them Supercross from an entirely new perspective.

These exclusive edits will be featured on GoPro’s motocross video channel at GoPro.com.

“Supercross is the pinnacle of motorcycle racing with its fierce competition, incredible speeds, and heroic stakes,” said Nicholas Woodman, GoPro’s founder and CEO.

“There’s no better way to bring the drama of a Supercross race to fans watching at home and online than to capture and share it from the riders’ perspective with a GoPro camera.

“We are so stoked to partner with Supercross and the riders to capture it all in glorious GoPro HD video. It’s going to be awesome to watch these guys attack the track and hopefully it inspires amateur riders to rock a GoPro and capture their own HERO moments while charging their own favorite tracks.”

GoPro’s HD HERO cameras are used by more consumers, athletes and professional production crews around the world than any other camera of its kind.

The HD HERO line of cameras is both the top selling wearable, mountable sports camera in consumer markets as well as the top selling camera of it’s kind to Hollywood for film and TV productions where an ‘easy to mount anywhere’ professional HD camera is needed.

GoPro’s success is best illustrated by the number of TV shows airing on Discovery Channel, National Geographic, CNN, CBS, BBC, Versus, FuelTV, SPEED, and more that feature footage captured with HD HERO cameras.
