The factory Yamaha Racing Team has capped off a remarkable 2010 season with yet another dominating performance at the Australasian FX-Superbike Championship, held at Winton Raceway in Victoria on Saturday.

The final event of the year saw the Yamaha team finish the season in grand style taking a 1-2 result in both the championship FX600 and the head-lining FX1000 Superbike class.

Kevin Curtain continues to defy his critics and produced the timeless performance only he can, winning seven out of the eight races he contested over the weekend and taking home the win in both 600cc and 1000cc classes.

Curtain raced away for the opening three FX1000 race wins before settling for second place in the final race of the day, taking the class win with ease and cementing his position as a rider of the finest caliber.

YRT also offered a guest ride to ASBK regular Glenn Allerton for the weekend on board the R1 in the FX1000 class.

With limited track and test time, Allerton repaid the favour nailing second place on the day, highlighted by a race win in the final event of the day.

Rounding out the overall podium was CJC Racing BMW’s Craig Coxhell, the local favourite putting on a solid performance in his FX debut for 2010.

Behind Coxhell was Cole Odendaal, the young Queeenslander impressing to edge out Pat Medcalf, the third of the YRT regulars in the FX1000 category.

It was a clean sweep of four from four for Curtain in the FX600 class, taking some hard fought race wins against young team mate Rick Olson.

Rick Olson overcame a heavy fall in Friday’s practice to bounce back and take second overall in the FX600 class behind Curtain.

Olson took it right up to Curtain in three out of the four legs, but maybe his best ride of the weekend came after he fell in race two and charged from the rear of the field to secure sixth in that race.

Behind the YRT duo was Kawasaki youngster Adrian Nestorovic in a solid performance.

“It was a great day for the team,” commented YRT manager John Redding. “All four riders acquitted themselves well and the results were exactly what we were hoping for.”

“Kevin continues to amaze us with his ability to step up and race at any level and to win both classes the way he did is almost trademark Curtain these days.

“Rick did a great job after his crash on Friday while Glenn stepped up to his role in the guest ride and put together a great day. Pat was as consistent as ever.

“As it is our last event of the year, I must make mention and thanks to Yamaha and all the team sponsors for another successful year at YRT.

“Kevin and Geoff do a tremendous job back in the work shop, the riders turn up prepared and the products we use are the best in the business. Thanks again to everyone involved.”
