The Blood Service is asking motorcyclists to donate blood this summer.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service is once again kicking off its annual Summer Blood Challenge but this time with a difference.

This year, instead of a challenge against the NSW Police Force, the campaign is now targeting and focusing solely on the generosity of motorcyclists.

Motorcyclists across NSW and the ACT are asked to join forces and donate between 1 January to 28 February 2011, whilst the NSW Police Force joins fellow emergency services for the Services’ Winter Challenge.

Over summer the Blood Service has to ensure there is enough blood for everyone who needs it at a time when many regular donors are enjoying a break from their usual routines.

With support from motorcyclists, the Summer Blood Challenge will help the Blood Service meet the demand.

Blood Service NSW/ACT Operations Unit manager Garry Wolfe is grateful for the support from motorcycle riders.

“The response from motorcyclists in 2009 was fantastic and we are extremely grateful for the support to help collect enough blood for those in need this summer,“ he commented.

“This year we are expecting the Challenge to be a great success and look forward to welcoming motorcyclists across the state at their local blood donor centres.”
