Australian Superbike number two Wayne Maxwell has undergone surgery to his hip to repair an injury that he admits hampered him during the 2010 season.

Maxwell had the operation carried out in Hobart, Tasmania, to fix damage to his cartilage and ligaments, however he’s confident that he’ll be back to 100 percent fitness for next season, which kicks off at Phillip Island in February.

“I’ll be laid up for about three weeks or so and then I’ll be able to start doing some training just after Christmas,” Maxwell explained to MotoOnline.com.au.

“I had to wait until the off-season to get the surgery done, but thankfully it’s gone better than firs thought because it can be up to anywhere of around three months for recovery.

“My recovery should be quick and it has hampered me a bit throughout this year, but it hasn’t been so bad.”

Despite the injury, less than a week prior to the surgery Maxwell raced to victory with Josh Brookes for Demolition Plus GAS Honda Racing in The 6 Hour, Australian Endurance Championship, at Phillip Island.

Maxwell’s future is yet to be determined, the likable Victorian-based rider currently still in discussions for ASBK teams in 2011.
