The limited edition green and gold Fox gear worn Jay Marmont at the 2010 Motocross of Nations and the Auckland round of Super X has raised $4050 to assist Harley Quinlan in his rehabilitation from serious spinal injury.

The gear went up for eBay auction and was won by the Rayner family of Queensland with their bid for the pant and jersey set signed by Jay.

The Rayners are a motocross family with son Reece a star of the GMR Motorex KTM team and were only too happy to purchase the gear and help in raising funds for Quinlan.

“We have admired both riders since we have been involved in the sport,” commented Melissa Rayner.

“We were excited to hear and see the news that we won the auction. Jay has become a role model and icon of the sport with his success and professionalism while Harley is a rider and person that we really look up to.

“What has happened to Harley is heartbreaking, but to see him today has been great and knowing this money will assist him to live a better life is the reason why we bid for it.

“We will frame the gear and hang it with pride in our house.”

Quinlan has been overwhelmed by support and encouragement since his injury just over a month ago.

The 19-year-old’s progress has been nothing short of amazing with doctors allowing Harley out for the day to attend the Brisbane round of Super X where he spent the day catching up with riders and friends before heading up to watch the action from high above the stadium floor.

“I just can’t say thank you enough to Jay and the Rayner family for what they have done,” he commented. “The spirit we have in the motocross community is amazing and I don’t know how to thank everyone for what they have done to assist me.

“I know this gear meant a lot to Jay and he worked so hard to get a spot on the Australian team, so for him to donate it to me was so cool. And the Rayner’s for buying the gear. $4000 is a lot of money and I’m so thankful for them to care enough to buy the gear.”

Jay Marmont was also on hand to present the gear to Reece and meet the Rayner family. His act of kindness cements Jay’s position as a leader in the motorcycle industry and the personal qualities he possesses.

“Just over $4000 is a great sum of money we have been able to raise for Harley,” the triple MX Nationals Champion said. “His injury affected everyone in racing and I hope this money goes a little way to making his life a bit easier in the future.

“It was also good to catch up with him today and he looks great. He is super positive about things and despite his injuries, I’m sure his future will be anything he wants it to be.

“The Rayners are a fantastic family and I want to thank them for purchasing the gear and the amount of money they have supported Harley with.”

Quinlan seriously severed his spinal cord in a training accident one month ago. He has lost all feeling from his chest down and his now in the Spinal Ward of the PA Hospital in Brisbane.

Doctors say it is unlikely Harley will regain feeling and movement again and is currently progressing through the rehabilitation process in the hospital.
