New Australian Superbike Champion Bryan Staring has reflected on a dream title victory upon return to the class in 2010.

Coming in as the reigning Supersport champion after switching from Yamaha to the Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing team just weeks out from the season opener, Staring has pieced together an exceptional title run this season.

The 23-year-old added the premier Superbike title to the 2009 Supersport and 2004 125cc Grand Prix crowns he had won previously, doing so with the team that he started out his road racing career with almost 10 years ago.

“What a fantastic time we’ve had this year – it’s crazy to think that I’ve just won the Australian Superbike Championship with the team that I started racing with in the 125 GP class eight years ago, or whenever it was,” Staring told MotoOnline.com.au in our Race Reflection film this afternoon.

“Wow, that’s was probably the worst actual weekend as far as racing goes for us for the year. But anyway we wrapped up the championship and that last race was tough in challenging conditions – I couldn’t see anything!”

An eventual eighth place finish was enough for Staring to seal the crown despite rival Wayne Maxwell winning the treacherous season finale in wet conditions.

“I managed to finish with enough points to win the championship even though it certainly wasn’t a race that I’m proud of,” he reflected.

As a rider recognised as incredibly fast, but somewhat inconsistent early in his career, Staring has reached his domestic potential this season – highlighted by an epic five-race win streak mid-season to really cement his championship challenge.

“I’m glad it’s over, I feel like the weight of the world is off my shoulders because I’ve been working really hard for this and so have the people who have contributed to help,” Gold Coast-based Staring continued.

“My Cougar Bourbon Honda team has been flawless, we’ve made some good choices, some really good decisions this year. What a year – three Australian championships now and it’s something to be proud of. It’s good!”
